June 9, 2016- "Autism's Advocate: From Non-Verbal to Public Speaker"- Alexander Magnussen’s recent TEDx talk would not have been possible a decade ago. Alexander, a 28-year-old with autism, is living his dream of being a public speaker, a feat that seemed impossible ten years ago, when he struggled to make it through a single day without hitting himself or anyone else. During his speech, he discussed how difficult it is to express yourself with autism and how it wasn’t until age 25 that he was able to engage in public speaking. Alexander’s overall message to the crowd: Autism is something to be celebrated, not feared.
