May 13, 2016- "Young Man With Autism Who Can't Speak Uses Facebook to Help Rescue Drowning Toddler"- When 23-year-old Aaron Cahal, who has autism and is verbally limited, heard a child’s scream, he took to Facebook to call for help. While Aaron was unaware at the time, the screams were coming from an 18-month-old boy who had fallen into a next door pool and was drowning. He took a picture of the home and posted it to the South Point Police Department’s Facebook page with a message he needed help. An on-duty officer who was monitoring the page recognized the area and dispatched Emergency Medical Services just in time to save the toddler’s life. Cahal’s mom, Lorena, said it doesn’t surprise her that he took to Facebook, because “that’s his lifeline,” but added “but it surprised me he got involved." The young boy’s family said their child is still recovering at an area hospital, and they hope to one day meet Cahal and thank him for his quick actions.
